Temperature: Floating Weekly Avg., Orrs Creek Sites, 2000 |
|
Caption: This Chart shows the floating weekly average water temperatures at lower (sites 184a and 184b) and upper (site 70) Orrs Creek for the year 2000. The temperature probe at site 184a was discovered by the public in July and delivered to Mendocino County Water Agency staff, who then deployed the probe at site 184b. Maximum floating weekly average water temperatures (MWAT) exceeded 17.0°C at the upper and lower sites, and exceeded 19.0°C at the upper site. Based on a review of steelhead growth studies, Sullivan et al. (2000) found that compared to optimum temperatures, an MWAT of 17.0°C reduced steelhead growth by 10%, and an MWAT of 19.0°C reduced growth by 20%. Temperature data comes from automated water temperature data probes placed in the Russian River and its tributaries by Mendocino County Water Agency.
