This image shows the location of Sonoma County Water Agency contract service areas, collectors and wells, transmission lines, booster stations and storage tanks. Image supplied by the Sonoma County Water Agency.
This photo shows Lake Mendocino with Ukiah in the background and snow on the hills. The East Fork is flowing into the reservoir at right and its flow is enhanced by additions of Eel River water which is pumped from the eel and through Potter Valley (see next Topic). Lake Sonoma impounds Dry Creek and helps supply water for Sonoma County Water Agency and its clients. The dam was built and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Photo provided by the Sonoma County Water Agency.
In order to recharge ground water, the mainstem Russian River is impounded with a rubber dam in the Mirabel Recreation Area and water is also diverted into the Wohler ponds adjacent to the river above the bend at left. Rainey collectors are used to pump ground water adjacent to the ponds. Image from the Sonoma County Water Agency.
This picture shows a Rainey collector, which pumps ground water adjacent to the Russian River to supply drinking water. Water is purified before use. Photo provided by the Sonoma County Water Agency.
This aerial photo shows the Wohler ponds along the Russian River during winter as indicated by the high flows and turbid water conditions. The Mirabel inflatable dam is only erected in summer so is not evident in this picture. Photo provided by the Sonoma County Water Agency.
A salmon or steelhead tries to leap over the Mirabel inflatable dam as the river rises after early season rains. The dam has a fish ladder on the far side and is taken down later in winter. Photo courtesy of the Sonoma County Water Agency.
