The mean monthly flows of Battle Creek are sufficient to support all four species
of chinook salmon. Winter-run and spring-run would migrate upstream during winter
and spring (January through May) when streamflows are high due to rain and snow
melt. This allows access to higher elevation reaches of the stream where habitat
conditions are optimal for these species. Base flows in September and October
also allow entry of fall chinook salmon. Monthly flows range from a base of
255 on average in September to 752 in January.
