Aquatic Invertebrates: Americano Creek Sampling Aug/May 1995 |
|
Caption: The chart shows aquatic invertebrate sampling results from Americano Creek in May, 1995 contrasted with samples taken in August of the same year. The numbers of stoneflies, mayflies, caddisflies, and the total species (taxa) found are displayed. These orders of insects are pollution intolerant and are, therefore, good water quality indicators. Few of these species were found in the samples, although there were more in May than August, which would be expected as flows dropped. August samples may have been taken from isolated pools if riffle areas were dry. Surveys were on the least degraded reaches of Americano Creek. The study was conducted by Merritt Smith Consulting for the City of Santa Rosa. See Picture for a map of the sampling locations.
