Aquatic Invertebrates: Olema Creek Taxa Richness 1999 |
|
Caption: The results displayed show the mean Taxa Richness at several locations in Olema Creek in fall 1999. The total number of taxa is indicative of water quality. The reference value shown in the graph provides a regional comparison to preliminary scoring criteria developed by the California Department of Fish and Game for the Russian River Index of Biological Integrity using California Stream Bioassessment Procedure (CSBP) for first to third order streams (Harrington et al., 1999). This study found that Taxonomic Richness less than 26 reflected highly impaired conditions. The Point Reyes National Seashore collected these aquatic invertebrates according to the CSBP protocols and they were identified by aquatic entomologist John Lee. See Map for the location of sampling sites and Info Links for more information.
