Fish: Redwood Creek Juvenile Salmonid Abundance (Fish/100ft) 1994 Oct |
|
Caption: The graph shows average estimated number of juvenile salmonids per 100 feet at several sites in Redwood Creek in October 1994. The length of the surveys is on the axis at right and sites on the X-axis are in downstream order to the right. Juvenile salmonids were sampled in July 1994 (see previous Topic) and resampled in October 1994 to determine late summer and fall fish survival, due to concern over drought conditions in 1993-1994 and groundwater pumping. Steelhead trout numbers substantially declined from July to October. Coho salmon density did not appear to decline from July to October, however this was already a weak year class. In October, at Sites 6 and 7 only isolated pools remained and sampled pools had generally poor dissolved oxygen levels (Smith, 1994c). Data were collected by Dr. Jerry J. Smith of San Jose State University for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. See Picture for a map of the sampling sites and Info Links for more information.
