Fish: Redwood Creek Juvenile Salmonid Abundance (Fish/100ft) 1997 |
|
Caption: The graph shows the average estimated number of juvenile salmonids per 100 feet at several sites in Redwood Creek during fall 1997. The length of the surveys is on the axis at right and sites on the X-axis are in downstream order to the right. Storms this year occurred at the beginning of the coho spawning season, making the potential for redd damage this winter much less than previous years. Coho salmon densities were lower than in 1992-1993 and 1995-1996, but significantly greater than in 1994 (parental year class). Mean steelhead trout young-of-year densities were lower than previous sampling years. Note Sites 6 and 7 experienced streambed drying with generally low dissolved oxygen in pools (Smith, 1998). Data were collected by Dr. Jerry J. Smith for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. See Picture for a map of the sampling sites and Info Links for more information.
