Habitat: Redwood Creek Channel Entrenchment 1995 |
|
Caption: Rosgen channel entrenchment was measured along six reaches of mainstem Redwood Creek and one reach of tributary, Fern Creek, in the summer of 1995 by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GOGA). Entrenchment is the ratio of floodplain width to stream width. The Banducci reach showed the highest degree of entrenchment (lowest number). GOGA notes that in order to control flow, the lower portion of this reach had artificial berms placed along the channel. The Big Lagoon-Pacific Way showed the lowest degree of entrenchment (highest number) and GOGA notes that this is not surprising due to the high amount of yearly flooding that occurs in this area.
