Suburban development on hillslopes above Muir Beach competes for water in Redwood Creek, as it extracts water from wells in the flood plain. Tourism in Muir Woods National Recreation Area is so high that human foot traffic could cause significant erosion to Redwood Creek if tourist activities were not confined to trails. Photo provided courtesy of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Flooded trail in low lying areas near Big Lagoon and Muir Beach. Recreational use of the beach and wetlands, including construction of a parking lot, have diminished aquatic and wetland habitat near the mouth of Redwood Creek. Photo provided courtesy of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Some livestock is kept on small farms and stables in the Redwood Creek watershed. Although the most serious problems with stock is over-grazing, runoff enriched with manure may also effect water quality. Photo provided courtesy of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Mt Tamalpias State Park provides recreational opportunities such as this Shakespeare performance at the Mountain Theater high in the Redwood Creek watershed. Since this theater is built on a ridge has a relatively small foot print (i.e.. total impervious area), it likely has little negative impact on the stream.
