This photo shows the mainstem Garcia River at the top of tidal influence at the Bend Hole, which is at right and was Station #1 in the estuary enhancement feasibility study (Higgins, 1995). Hathaway Creek joins the Garcia from the opposite bank at left in the photo. Steve Cannata and Craig Bell, who helped with sampling, inspect the pool in June 1995. Photo by Pat Higgins. Station #5 is shown here where the Garcia River, near the bottom of the estuary, made a sharp turn to the north before entering the ocean near the bluffs. This station was dominated by freshwater flows and steelhead trout at the time of this June 1995 photo. Salt water changed the habitat and fish community as river flows dropped later in July and August. Photo by Pat Higgins.
