This spider log structure installed in Red Cap Creek was left isolated from the low flow channel by the January 1997 storm. This structure can still provide over-wintering habitat for juvenile steelhead. Photos provided by Six Rivers National Forest, September 1997.

The channel of Red Cap Creek re-routed during the January 1997 storm to the other side of the flood plain, against a bedrock wall. This structure could still provide over-wintering habitat for juvenile steelhead in the future. Photos provided by Six Rivers National Forest, September 1997.

This wood structure on Red Cap Creek survived the January 1997 storm and was providing good summer juvenile habitat at the time of the survey. Surveyors noted that the wood in the structure was rotting. Photos provided by Six Rivers National Forest, September 1997.
