Caption: The chart above shows fall Chinook salmon escapement for the Trinity River Basin above the Junction City weir from 1977-2002. Grilse are also known as jack salmon and are generally precocious males that have spent only one year in the ocean. High grilse returns such as in 1985 are sometimes indicative of good adult returns in the following year. For a link to the CDFG reports which are the data source, click on Info Links.
