Temperature: Temp Max Indian Creek Bracket @ SF Salmon 1998 |
|
Caption: This chart shows the maximum daily water temperatures during the summer of 1998 in the SF Salmon River above, below and in Indian Creek. Notice that Indian Creek was warmer than the SF Salmon until mid July, and then was noticeably cooler during the hottest period of the summer. Although its water was cooler, Indian Creek did not seem to have a cooling influence on the water temperature of the SF Salmon. This may suggest that Indian Creek was not of sufficient size to influence the SF Salmon. The mouth of Indian Creek did provide a cold water refugia for Salmonids during the summer temperature peak. Data are missing between 6/2/99 and 8/24/99 in the SF Salmon above Indian Creek due to the malfunctioning temperature sensor. Data were collected by automated temperature sensors called Hobotemps, which were anchored in flowing water in the shade, recording temperatures between June and November, 1998. Hobotemps were monitored by students at Forks of Salmon School, community volunteers and paid staff of the Salmon River Restoration Council.
