Caption: The floating weekly average water temperature of Butter Creek is shown above for the years 1991-1992 and 1995. Water temperatures in Butter Creek exceeded habitable for coho throughout the summer in 1991 and 1992 but did not in the entire season of 1995. The differences between these years may be primarily driven by flow with 1991 and 1992 being dry and 1995 wet. The threshold of 16.8 C shown above denotes suitability for coho salmon according to Welsh et al. (2001). Butter Creek is an excellent steelhead stream and was noted to have coho prior to the 1964 Flood (Coots, 1952). Data provided by Shasta Trinity National Forest. See Info Links for more information.
