Topic Temperature: Floating Weekly Average Miners Cr (Trib of Hayfork) 1991-

Caption:  The floating weekly average water temperature of Miners Creek, tributary of Hayfork Creek, is shown above for the years 1991-1992 and 1997. Water temperatures in Miners Creek were optimal for salmonids throughout the summer in these years despite some very low flows in 1991 and 1992. The lower reaches of Miners Creek and its cold-water plume into Hayfork Creek provide a vital summer refugia for steelhead juveniles (see Higgins, 1995 in KRIS Bibliography. The maximum weekly average temperature (MWAT) did not exceed the threshold for suitability for coho salmon according to Welsh et al. (2001), although coho are not known to have spawned above tributaries in Hyampom. Similar temperature thresholds have not been confirmed for the Klamath Basin and therefore threshold is shown only for reference. Data provided by Shasta Trinity National Forest but was trimmed for outliers by the Forest Science Project (now known as the Institute for Forest and Watershed Management).
