Habitat: Pool Spacing in Navarro River and Tributaries 1996 |
|
Caption: This chart reflects the relative amount of pools in Navarro River basin streams by showing pool spacing values measured in 1996. Higher values indicate a lower frequency of pools with values ranging from 2.5 (Mainstem Navarro) to 7.7 (SB North Fork Navarro). According to Montgomery et al. 1995, forced pool-riffle channels in undisturbed forests exhibit pool spacing between 0.2 to 3 channel widths and only the mainstem Navarro River fell within these bounds. Pool spacing is measured as the reach length divided by the channel width divided by the number pools. Entrix et al. (1998) noted a lack of LWD in most surveyed reaches.
