Small tributary of Indian Creek pours from gully. This area appears disrupted by an old road prism and the current channel was likely configured by a crossing failure. Photo by Pat Higgins, October 1995.

Indian Creek has been adversely effected by the large inner gorge landslide in the center part of the photo. The slide may have delivered the large log to the gravel bar in the foreground but it also contributed tons of sediment. These slides are often triggered by high flows which reach far upslope due to bedload entrained as part of flood waters. The saturated toe fails and areas further up the arc of the failure plane follow. Photo by Pat Higgins, October 1995.

This slope above Indian Creek was logged decades ago but coniferous trees have not grown back. This slope is on the east side of the creek and is in a sun-facing location which makes it difficult for young conifers to survive. Forest health could have been better maintained by selectively harvesting at this site. Photo by Pat Higgins, October 1995.

Inner gorge failure along Indian Creek appears related to logging (see stumps at upper left). Photo by Pat Higgins, October 1995.

Indian Creek with stump from previous logging near the active channel and early seral stage conifers and hardwoods comprising the present canopy. This stream reach remains subject to warming because of past management at this location. Photo by Pat Higgins.
