Habitat: Lagunitas Creek Average Pool Depths 1998-1999 |
|
Caption: The chart shows average and maximum pool depths in feet taken from habitat typing surveys of Lagunitas Creek in 1998 and 1999 conducted by the Marin Municipal Water District. Pools were deeper in lower reaches of Lagunitas Creek, which would be expected as the stream increases its flow and scour capacity. Deeper pools provide increased habitat volume for coho and yearling and older steelhead, which both prefer pool habitats. Brown et al. (1994) suggested that optimal coho habitat was comprised of pools greater than a meter (3' 3") in depth, which would make the Shafters Bridge to Peters Dam a less productive reach for coho.
