Fish: Adult Chinook Population 1978-2002 |
|
Caption: The chart above shows fall Chinook salmon escapement to the Shasta River from 1978 to 2002. Spawner escapement on the Shasta River showed a declining trend from 1978 to 1992. Rebuilding of runs from 1993 to 1995 may be in part owing to reduced fishing pressure in the ocean and a shift in the timing of Indian net harvests. Stream pulse flows in the Shasta River, when farmers and ranchers pulled flashboards on all diversion dams simultaneously, were also carried out beginning in 1993. The pulse flows were organized by the Shasta Cooperative Resource Management Planning (CRMP) group to flush juvenile Chinook salmon before stream temperatures rose above lethal levels. Data from the California Department of Fish and Game.
