Fish: Outmigrant Trap Total Catch NF Navarro River 1997 |
|
Caption: The downstream migrant trap on the North Fork Navarro River was operated from late March to early June in 1997. The fish community was still dominated by steelhead young of the year with coho only a minor component of the community. While there were 23 young of the year steelhead for every yearling in 1995 and 16:1 in 1996, the 1997 total had a ratio of 60:1 young of the year to yearlings. This could indicate that older age steelhead may have been dislodged by the January 1, 1997 storm. However, trap efficiencies may vary with flows so the proportion could also be related to yearlings being more or less susceptible to trapping at various flows, not their relative abundance.
